The one track railway bridge across the Amur River in Khabarovsk City was built in 1916. The total length of the bridge was 2600.0m. The river bed part of a bridge is covered by steel through truss with 18x127.4m spans.

The objective of the project was to change the one track railway bridge into two track railway bridge with 4-lane carriageway at the upper level.

In 1990 the feasibility study of reconstruction project was established. The total length of the river crossing structure becomes13.6km.

Further, Transmost JSC has implemented the following detailed design:

Reconstruction of piers, widening of piers by using the ice cutting part for the new superstructure of the second railway track, strengthening the existing masonry and foundation.  

  • Design of the continuous trusses of the river bed part of the bridge with the maximum length of 2x128.4m, which is designed for railway and road transport at two levels.
  • Design of 712m-long overpass on the left shore, consisted of twenty one 33m-long spans, made of reinforced concrete.
  • Design of 612m-long overpass on the right shore, consisted of nine 33m-long spans, continuous composite steel and concrete 2x34m-long span and continuous composite 68+84+74m span.

The construction process was held without stopping the traffic.

Year of 1st stage completion: 1999 (opening of the railway traffic at the lower level and vehicular traffic at the upper level)

Year of 2nd stage completion: 2009 (replacement of existing arch spans of the first railway track into the new ones for railway traffic at the lower level with perspective assembling of carriageway at the upper chords of truss)
