Transmost* has launched business activities in January 1930, when by order of
Peoples’ Commisariat of Communications a Leningrad Design Bureau was established
for a Bid project to develop a bridge across Volga river near
Saratov.
The
first decade of Transmost activities was a period of formation as an entity for
investigations and comprehensive design of artificial facilities for railway
purposes. Already in 1934, Transmost became the most robust design bureau in
Design
Center under Peoples’
Commisariat of Communications.
In
pre-war period, Transmost designed tens of large and medium-size bridges for
second tracks and newly constructed railway lines. According to design
projects developed by guest groups and teams only, on Zabaikalsky and Ussuriysky
railways including, all large and medium-size bridges were constructed, as well
as small-size artificial structures on second railway track and new lines with a
total length of about 7,500 kilometers. Major
overpasses across Volga, Neva, Pechora, Severnaya Dvina, Volkhov, Svir, Amur,
Kama and other rivers were
constructed.
During
the Great Patriotic War, all activities of our institute were adapted in
accordance with objectives of wartime. Studies for design of temporary
renovation of railway bridges were launched and later, in post-war period,
design activities were launched for major rebuilding of bridges and tunnels. In
November 1943, Transmost took the 2nd place by its production
indicators (among 22 competitors) from design bureaus of Soyuztransproekt. In
total, during war years, 2,756 large and medium-size bridges were restored based
on designs of Voenvosttransproekt front line teams including over 60 engineers
and technicians of Transmost. For participation in restoration works during
wartime period, thirty (30) bureau members were awarded with state
orders.
50s are
important in the life o our company. Exactly in this period, key directions of
activities and organizational structure of the company finally shaped, Already
in early 60s the company became one of the largest design companies in the
country for design and development of transport
facilities.
In 1956
Transmost was approved as a leading design organization of the country in the
sphere for typical design of small-size artificial structures in railway
transport. Period of 1955-1960 may be characterized by substantial increase of
specific ratio for development of typical projects and projects of new equipment
prototypes in the total volume of company activities. Transmost contribution in
creation of typical structures for mass industrial construction of artificial
structures was marked by awarding of our institute with an Order of Labor Red
Banner in 1980.
In 1967
– 1975, Transmost developed projects for 21 major bridges for Baikal-Amurskaya
railway. Based on projects of our company, railway bridges across Neva river in
Saint-Petersburg (Finlyandsky bridge) was constructed for the second railway
track, as well as a bridge across Bolda river near Astrakhan, Dnepr river in
Dnepropetrovsk and other, in total about 20 large-size bridges for combined
railway and motor car traffic, including bridges across Irtish, Ob, Enisey, Amur, Abakan, Angara,
Severnaya Dvina and other rivers. Numerous motor road bridges were constructed,
across Enisey, Severnaya Dvina, Volga, Dnepr, Neva, Volkhov, Irtish, Om rivers,
as well as metro bridges across Ob in Novosibirsk
and Irtish in Omsk.
Following
privatization in 1993, the Institute was established as Transmost Open

improvement of technology concerning design and investigation
activities.

sections for the 3rd transport beltway in Moscow (about 15.5 running
km of artificial structures, two bridges across Moskva river including), 1
section of Beltway around Saint-Petersburg, several transport multilevel
junctions in Saint-Petersburg, numerous bridges in Khanti-Mansysk Autonomous
District, including one bridge across Irtish river near Khanti-Mansysk, a
railway drawbridge across Buzan river near Astrakhan, metro bridge across Oka
river near Nizhny Novgorod, combined bridge across Dnepr river in Kyiv, a bridge
